The STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting course deals with the necessary precautions to minimize the risk of fires aboard ship, how fires are caused and the first means of extinguishing them. The course includes practical training in the use of fire fighting equipment and the use of breathing apparatus for fire fighting and rescue work. The course covers the following key topic areas: - Minimising the risk of fire - Maintaining a state of readiness to respond to emergency situations involving fire - Fighting and extinguishing a fire - Shipboard fire-fighting organisation - Location of fire-fighting appliances and emergency escape routes - The elements of fire and explosion (the fire triangle) - Types and sources of ignition - Flammable material, fire hazards and spread of fire - Fire and smoke detection and automatic alarm systems - Classification of fire and applicable extinguishing agents Course Certification: Upon successful completion you will receive a certificate in STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting approved by the Maritime Coastguard Agency as laid down in STCW 95 Regulation VI/1 paragraph 2.1.2 of Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code.
